NSW Health has tapped Telstra and NTT to deliver an infrastructure upgrade at hospitals and health services across the state.
The companies will supply hardware including switches and wireless access points, along with associated software, licensing and services.
The upgrade is part of NSW Health’s Health Grade Enterprise Network (HGEN) – a statewide initiative for the ongoing purchase and management of ICT network infrastructure.
NSW Health said the initiative will “replace ageing, inconsistent local infrastructure” at over 1,100 hospitals and health facilities across the state.
Ian Schrader, director infrastructure portfolio at eHealth NSW, said the HGEN initiative will involve upgrading wired and wireless networking infrastructure at facilities.
“Over the coming years, more than 1,100 NSW Health facilities, including hospitals and community health centres will progressively undergo a refresh of local networking hardware and software that underpin our increasingly digital hospital environments.”
“As our reliance on digital technology continues to grow, this will help ensure that NSW Health can continue to meet evolving clinical, patient and staff needs.”
NSW Health said the initiative will also support the delivery of the Single Digital Patient Record platform that will “provide a secure, holistic and integrated view of the care a patient receives across the NSW Health system.”
