A small group of masked protesters gathered around Taoiseach Simon Harris’s family home on Friday.

The group, some of whom carried Irish flags, claimed they were there to demand Mr Harris “close the borders”.

They made comments about wanting “mass deportations” and clearing tents.

One man also made references to the Covid-19 vaccine.

Those involved wore scarves or face masks which concealed their identities.

Gardaí were at the scene and warned them to stay off private property.

“Gardaí responded after a small number of individuals gathered outside a residence in Greystones, Co. Wicklow, shortly before 8:00pm on Friday, 14th June 2024. Gardaí engaged with those present and instructed them to immediately leave the area, which they complied with. We have no further comment to make at this time,” a spokesperson said.

It is understood the incident lasted only a few minutes before they left the area.

Mr Harris’s office is not commenting on the incident.

The Taoiseach did publicly state his concerns about a similar event at the beginning of May.

On that occasion a group gathered outside his Wicklow home while his children were preparing for bed.

Mr Harris lives with his wife and two small children in a housing estate in the Greystones area of Co Wicklow.

More than a dozen people were part of a group holding banners with slogans including ‘close the borders’, ‘house the Irish first’ and ‘Eire will no longer run by EU puppets’. Images of the demonstrators outside the Taoiseach’s house were posted on social media but their faces were blurred.

“I have a very clear view in relation to this whether it’s me, whether it’s an opposition politician, whether it’s, it’s quite frankly, anybody. I always think people’s families and people’s homes should be out of bounds,” Mr Harris said.
