Bond Named Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach – Western Michigan University Athletics

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Western Michigan women’s basketball head coach Shane Clipfell announced the addition of Cierra Bond as the program’s new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator on Friday, June 14. 

“We are really excited about Cierra joining our staff. We love the connections she has from her earlier stop in the Chicago area and then she grew up in the east side of our state so she will be very connected there too. She will head up our recruiting efforts and will have a large role in our player development side as well.”  Coach Clipfell said. “Her energy is what won us over in the interview process, you can tell that her positive energy will be infectious to our players and staff.” Praised Clipfell.

Prior to joining WMU Bond served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Chicago State last season and was the Director of Player Development at Madonna University from 2021-2023.  

At Chicago State, Bond coordinated all recruiting communication, travel, scheduling, and documentation duties. Off the court, Bond was an instrumental asset in her student-athlete’s academic success, as she facilitated academic groups by leading weekly meetings and supported student study halls.

“My coaching journey has been defined by a strong belief in the power of mentorship, fostering a positive team culture, and developing the holistic potential of each player,” Bond said. “I am confident that my skills in player development, strategic planning, and effective communication would make a valuable contribution to the continued growth of the Western Michigan University women’s basketball program.” 

Before her time at Chicago State in her two seasons at Madonna, Bond focused on her leadership and on-court skills as the Director of Player Development. With the Crusaders, Bond propelled the program by recruiting and signing talent across the Division I and II levels. Bond was responsible for organizing and implementing daily practice plans, scouting reports, and film breakdown sessions. She also coordinated camps, fundraising, and volunteer efforts on behalf of the basketball program. Off the court, Bond provided academic counseling and monitored the progress of her students. 

In the classroom, Bond earned a bachelor’s degree from Oakland University in integrative studies and an associate’s degree at South Georgia Technical College in recreation and leisure management.
