Man charged with rioting, setting fire to garda car

A 30-year-old man has appeared in court charged with two offences including setting fire to a garda car during riots in Dublin last year.

Daniel Clarke, with an address at Dolphin House in Dublin 8, is also charged with rioting at Lower O’Connell Street on 23 November 2023.

He was arrested yesterday as part of the investigations into the public disorder.

Detective Garda Sean Dineen from Store Street Garda Station gave evident of arrest, charge and caution.

He told the court the accused made no reply after he was charged and cautioned at Store Street Garda Station yesterday evening.

Defence barrister Fergal McCarrow applied for bail and he also made an application for free legal aid and that his client was in receipt of social welfare.

Judge Marie Quirke granted bail subject to an independent surety cash payment of an of €3,500 and a number of strict conditions.

Ms Justice Quirke remanded Mr Clarke in custody with consent to bail to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Tuesday, 18 June.
