Family of girl stabbed in Parnell Square attack issue hopeful update

The family of a five-year-old girl who was stabbed in an attack in Parnell Square have issued a hopeful update more than six months son.

The girl was left in critical condition following the horrific attack, which occurred in broad daylight on November 23.

A GoFundMe to help her family following the attack has raised over €90,000, with her family sharing updates on her condition — with them posting on Friday that she’s ‘doing well’ and is engaging with nurses, doctors, teachers and therapists.

‘Our angel warrior is doing well,’ the GoFundMe’s update read. ‘She is able to stay awake all day, engage with nurses, doctors, therapists, teachers. She is becoming more certain of her answers, and her communication is clearer.

‘We had a school tour yesterday. The school hospital threw a lovely event! She dressed up, played, and everyone had a lovely time.

‘Thank you all so much for the lovely wishes,’ they added. ‘We are able to enjoy the [sunshine] whenever it is out, so here is hoping for more sunny days.’

While the little girl remains in hospital, her family have said that they are happy with her progress, saying back in May on the six month anniversary of the attack that it was the six month anniversary of her ‘rebirth.’

‘Our little star has been thriving in her therapies,’ they said at the time. ‘She is on full feeds via her tummy, moving her limbs quite well and purposefully, making choices and answering questions. Her cognition is there, for sure.

‘Thank you all so much for the lovely messages, support, love and prayers sent our way.’

Two other children, aged five and six, were injured in the attack, as well as creche worker Leanne Flynn Keogh, who was left in critical condition following the attack. The two other children were discharged from hospital shortly after the incident.
