NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – JUNE 16

DIVISION ONE

Mold (14) 184-3 Dolgellau (1) 180-6

Isaac Allen produced a captain’s innings of 63 not out as Mold eased to a seven-wicket win at home to Dolgellau on Saturday.

Against the odds, with the horrendous weather, this Division One battle was completed.

Dolgellau set 180-6 off their 38 overs, after thunder, lightning, rain and hail stopped play for over an hour in the middle of the innings. 

The entire Mold team took it in turns with the ‘Super Sopper’ and got the game back on when others in the area were unable.

Lafras Van Vuuren (59), David Jenkins (35) and Jack Williamson (34) all made good scores up the order for the visitors in their effort of 180-6, Usman Butt with 2-26 for the hosts.

Against a backdrop of black clouds, Mold replied with a 77 opening partnership from Thomas North (48) and Ewan Hill (28), followed by a 93 fourth-wicket stand between Butt (28 no) and skipper Allen (63 no) for a total of 184-3 in 31.5 overs.

Allen’s half-ton came off 55 balls and included four fours and four sixes.

Brymbo 2nd XI (14) 180-8 Abergele (1) 88-10

Joss Roberts was in the runs again with an outstanding 92 not out as Brymbo seconds set a winning 180-8 off 40 overs.

Dominant opener Roberts was well backed for a time by Mike Paletta (31), while impressive while Ranjith Thozhuthingal took 5-30 for Abergele, David Moulson adding 2-19 off eight.

In response, Gele were dismissed for 88, Sion Edwards 3-14, Gareth Pugh 2-9, Jack Bettis 2-16 and Ioan Craven-Jones 2-23 for the triumphant Steelmen.

Conwy (15) 210-2 Halkyn (0) 72-10

Evan Williams had to settle for finishing 99 not out as Conwy posted a formidable 210-2 off 39 overs after electing to bat against Halkyn.

One extra run would have made it a maiden century for Williams, whose time for three figures will surely come.

Shaun Davies struck 50 in an opening stand of 115 with Williams, Jonathon Davies later adding 30 not out.

Vaughan Williams then took 5-22, Patrick Jelley 2-17 and Guto Davies 2-24 as Halkyn were blown away for just 72.

DIVISION TWO

Bangor 2nd XI (11) 170-7 Pontblyddyn 2nd XI (4) 168-10

Peter Jones’ 80 not out and five wickets from Callum McCann proved decisive for Bangor seconds in a close-fought thriller at Ty Newydd.

Put into bat, the hosts set 170-7 off 40 overs, Jones hitting 10 fours in his immense unbeaten effort, Gareth Jones picking up 3-23 and Ryan Pearce 3-44 for Pont.

In response, Pont were 54-4 at one stage, but came very close to victory only to lose their final wicket on 168.

Wicket-keeper and skipper Dave Evans made a defiant 72 for the visitors, Steffan Jones 30, but McCann’s 5-20 and 2-24 from Gareth Edwards helped the Citizens scrape hime.

Corwen (1) 117-9 Menai Bridge 2nd XI (14) 121-3

A comfortable seven-wicket win for the Bridge in Corwen.

The hosts, who chose to bat, were limited to 117-9 off 36 overs, only a spirited 32 down the order by Steff Lloyd saving them from a much lower score.

David Owen snapped up 3-13, John Duffy 2-15 and Phil Smith 2-16 for the Bridge, who went on to reach 121-3 in 33.2, Edward Gadsby 27 no, Smith and Owen both 25.

Llay Welfare (11) 202-4 Carmel (4) 181-6

Second-placed Llay maintained their good form with a hard-earned success over Carmel at The Ring.

Invited to bat, the hosts chalked up 202-4 off 40, skipper Tom Parry 85 not out and Jack Honey 56.

Carmel made a stirring effort in reply, but finished 22 short of victory on 181-6, skipper Ben Sim 62, Danny Owens 28 and Lee Rowles 26, Dylan Honey 3-30 for the home side in an 11-4 points verdict.

Marchwiel and Wrexham (15) 58-1 Gresford 2nd XI (0) 57-10

Leaders Marchwiel and Wrexham continue to steamroller the opposition.

On Saturday, they bowled out Gresford seconds for just 57 after putting the visitors in, James Griffin 25, Scott Lawrenson 4-11 and Sam Shoemark 2-12.

The hosts coasted to 58-1 in 12 overs for a 15-0 points haul, Sam Heard Edwards 21 no.

Long-serving Gerallt Lyall and Stuart Griffiths both made half-tons which guided Denbigh seconds to victory at Ystrad Road.

Asked to take first knock, Bethesda seconds set 164-6 off 40, Ashley Rowlands 39, Dylan Hughes 34 and skipper Byron Jones 30 no.

Lyall, fresh from a century the previous week, impressed again as opener with 59 no, while Griffiths made 57 as the home side reached 167-3 in 37 for a 14-1 decision.

Pwllheli (12) 97-6 Ruthin (3) 95-10

Hari Glyn Williams made an eye-catching 41 not out for Pwllheli in a four-wicket victory at home to Ruthin.

The visitors were inserted and dismissed for just 95, Daniel Pigott 3-12, Harri Adams 3-23 and Kalim Al Baloshi 2-21 for Pwllheli.

Williams’ undefeated innings helped Pwll reach 97-6 in 19.5 overs, Jonny Clayton a sparkling 4-33 for the losing side.

A useful score of 170-8 from Llanrwst seconds at Pentre Mawr was always destined to be too much for the hosts.

The Rwsters were put into bat and useful knocks from skipper Matty Lloyd (27), Leon Doran (25), Aled Hufhes (23) and number 10 Gaz Jones (20 not out) helped form a decent total.

Owen Lynam (3-26), Ebin Sebastian (2-23) and Devon Shaw (2-36) all bowled steadily for the hosts, who were then skittled out for just 65.

Doran claimed 4-14, Kevin Johnson 3-8 and Gaz Jones 2-3 for the Conwy Valley victors.

Bersham 2nd XI (14) 208-9 Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn (1) 116-10

Number six batsman Jayesh Jayan hit an outstanding 73 in Bersham seconds’ emphatic victory over their visitors.

The hosts posted 208-9 off 37 overs after being asked to bat, Jayan the dominant force.

Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn were bowled out for 116, Abs Dey 40, while Shins Varghese took 4-11, Lewis Derwent 2-13 and Santhu Kj 2-14 for the winners.
