DECATUR — Millikin has found its new women’s basketball coach with the hiring of Wisconsin Whitewater associate head coach Kirsten Hammer, Millikin announced on Monday.
Hammer replaces Olivia Lett, who coached Millikin for six seasons with a 105-48 record and three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Lett was named head coach at Illinois-Springfield earlier this month.
“Coach Hammer’s credentials and experience in a program with a great reputation like UW-Whitewater brought her to the top of our applicant pool,” Millikin athletic director Craig White said in a release. “I strongly believe she is the right person to lead our program and maintain the level of excellence found in the Millikin women’s basketball program.”

Whitewater made a Division III Elite Eight appearance last season to end a 25-5 campaign. Hammer was on the Warhawks’ staff that won Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Women’s College Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2017-18 and as associate head coach led the Warhawks to three-straight tournament appearances.
“I want to thank President Reynolds, Athletic Director Craig White and the entire search committee for giving me the opportunity to join the Big Blue Family,” Hammer said. “I am excited to take the next step in my career and continue to build on the success of the Millikin Women’s Basketball Program. I am beyond grateful to have been part of an amazing group at UW-Whitewater and thank Coach, Keri Carollo, the players, staff and the Whitewater community for all their support these past five years.”
Hammer also was a lecturer for the university’s Department of Health, Human Performance, Recreation and Coaching while on Whitewater’s staff as an assistant.
