Kyprios reminds Kinane of legendary Yeats as stayer backed for Gold Cup success

Kyprios reminds legendary jockey Mick Kinane of the great Yeats, who won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot an incredible four times.

Aidan O’Brien is aiming for a ninth success in the day three feature as Kyprios aims to triumph in the 2m4f contest for a second time following his success in 2022.




And Kinane, who rode Yeats to his second win in the race, sees similarities between the two Ballydoyle stayers.

Kinane, who won the race a total of three times with the aforementioned Yeats (2007), Kayf Tara (2000) and Classic Cliche (1996), believes that O’Brien’s star stayer will be very hard to beat on Thursday.

He told Grosvenor Sport: “I find it hard to look past Kyprios in the Gold Cup. He’s proven over the distance, and he looks to have come back to himself since his return from injury last year. He looks very difficult to oppose.

“The way he goes reminds me of Yeats in that he’s laid back, just seems to do enough, and saves everything for the extreme trip. With the Gold Cup, it’s very difficult to know if your horse will get the trip until you try, but we know that Kyprios does get the distance, which is a big bonus.”
