2:22 A Ghost Story star Colin O’Donoghue on acting, real life exorcisms and working with Anthony Hopkins
The Louth man talks about his excitement to return to the stage in 2:22 – A Ghost Story and the lengths he’ll go to for a role, including attending an exorcism for the lead alongside Anthony Hopkins in The Rite
Colin O’Donoghue is a hard nut to crack. Most people in the arts are. A lovely, relatable man, of course — but stoic, introspective, and hard to draw out. “I don’t like to give a lot of myself away,” he confirms. “I like to keep myself to myself. I am not a travelling salesman in interviews. Some people are brilliant at that. Not that there is anything wrong with that but I am just not one of those people.”
Near the end of a 45-minute conversation, I say I am curious about whether — given he was born in 1981 and was raised near the Border in Co Louth — he was freer of the psychological baggage of the Troubles than actors from the older generation might have been.
