Kilpatrick hit with two-game ban after Cork sending off

Tyrone midfielder Conn Kilpatrick will miss his side’s All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarter-final against Roscommon this weekend.

Kilpatrick has been handed a two-game suspension by the Central Hearings Committee.

The suspension is for an infraction against Cork at Tullamore in the Red Hand’s recent All Ireland SFC game with Cork – and was doubled because it was his second red card of the year.

Kilpatrick was sent off after an off-the-ball altercation was flagged by a linesman.

The Central Competitions Control Committee initially issued the ban under Rule 7.2 (b), Category III, T.O. 2024.

That rule category relates to “striking with hand, with minimal force”.

At a personal hearing last night the Central Hearings Committee found that the infraction was proven.

The CHC imposed the following penalty on repeat infraction: “a two match suspension in the same code and at the same level, applicable to the next games in the combination of National League/Inter-County Senior Championship, even if one or both games occur(s) in the following year.”

Because Kilpatrick was sent off for a straight red in Tyrone’s Allianz Football League win over Roscommon, his suspension was extended to two games.

It means that – as things stand – the towering midfield star will miss his team’s preliminary quarter-final against Roscommon at Healy Park on Saturday at 5pm, and the quarter-final should Tyrone progress.

Kilpatrick does, however, have the option to appeal the decision.
