Sinner wins third straight three-setter to reach semis in Halle

World No 1 Jannik Sinner edged out German Jan-Lennard Struff 6-2, 6-7 (1), 7-6 (3) to move into the last 4 of the Halle Open at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Friday evening.

Sinner, ranked No 1, will face the winner of the match between Chinese Zhizhen Zhang and American Christopher Eubanks next.

The 22-year-old Italian defeated Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-2) and Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3) ahead of his victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Struff, ranked No 41, edged out Italian Luciano Darderi (6-7 (2), 7-5, 7-6 (10)) and won against Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-4).
