A man has died following a fire at a student village in Limerick city late on Thursday night.
Gardaí and emergency services, including a number of Limerick Fire Service units, rushed to the scene of the inferno at around 11:45pm, with crew attached to the fire station jumping into action to tackle the blaze.
Pictures from the scene show the bottom floor windows of one house were broken, with the outer walls of the residence blackened with soot.
A male was subsequently located deceased in the residence at Kilmurry Village in the University of Limerick, whose body remains at the scene. The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will be conducted throughout Friday.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged and the results of this, along with the findings of the technical examination, will determine the course of the Garda investigation.
The fire took place at the Kilmurry Village student accommodation complex located on the University of Limerick campus, a short distance from the university sports centre. Although the village is primarily used by students during the academic year, it is also rented by non-students during the summer.
