QB Trevor Lawrence Plans To Take Jacksonville to New Heights as He Locks in His “No-Brainer” Extension
“I’m not going to add any pressure to myself just based on getting this this contract. It doesn’t really change what I expect from myself and what the team expects from me.”
Lawrence became the third drafted quarterback in franchise history to sign a post-rookie contract extension, with the others being David Garrard (Round 4, 2002 NFL Draft) and Blake Bortles (Round 1, 2014). He and outside linebacker Josh Allen each signed long-term contract extensions this offseason, with Allen having been selected by the franchise No. 7 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Lawrence on Thursday emphasized the positive of the long-term aspect of the contract.
“Obviously, financially it’s amazing and really sets us up for the future and for the rest of our lives,” Lawrence said. “That’s a huge blessing. Obviously, that’s a big deal. But I think even more than that is the stability of being here for the long term.
“We’ve really settled in. This is home for us. We wanted to be here long-term. It’s a place we love to live. We know that because we’ve had some good and bad times as far as football goes.We love being here either way.”
Lawrence’s objective now: More good times – and even the best NFL times.
“I want to be quarterback here,” he said. “I want to bring a championship to Jacksonville. That’s my goal, and I really know that we can accomplish that. I’m excited for that, and it just pairs up to where you happen to love living here, too. Whether this got done or not, Mr. Khan, Trent, [Head Coach] Doug [Pederson] –everyone, all the coaches – expect me to play well and to bring a championship here eventually.
“I know that’s the that’s the end goal, and that’s what I’m here for.”
