Jamesie O’Connor: Four best teams are still standing but Cork and Clare will need big improvement to take next step

No major surprises in Thurles yesterday afternoon, with both results panning out as expected. Cork had five points to spare in the opener but Micheál Donoghue’s Dublin side deserve a lot of credit for staying in the fight and emerging with their honour intact after a gutsy second-half display.

Donoghue rang the changes after their insipid Leinster final performance, replacing all three of his inside starting forwards and wing-back Paddy Doyle. They started well and it was tit for tat in the opening 20 minutes with the sides level on six occasions.
