Man, 40s, seriously injured in early morning city centre brawl

A man was rushed to hospital after a brawl spanning two streets in Dublin city centre in the early hours of this morning.

Gardai rushed to the scene of two incidents involving a number of people on both O’Connell Street and nearby Cathal Brugha Street at around 1am. One man, aged in his 40s, has been taken to the Mater Hospital with serious injuries.




Two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, have been arrested and are currently being held at a garda station in the city centre. Gardai are urging any witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.

In particuar, gardai are looking to speak to people who were near The Living Room bar, and near the Tourism Office, Spar, and Funland opposite the Spire, between 12:40am and 1am this morning. A garda spokesman said: “Gardai are investigating an assault which occurred on O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin 1 this morning, Sunday 23rd June 2024.

“At approximately 1:00am this morning, Gardai on patrol in the city centre were alerted to two incidents involving a number of individuals on Cathal Brugha Street and O’Connell Street Upper and attended. Upon arrival, two suspects were identified and arrested near the scene.

“A man, aged in his 40s, has been taken to the Mater Hospital to be treated for serious injuries sustained in this incident. No other injuries have been reported.
