In the region: Virginia Tech women land recruit Amani Jenkins

Amani Jenkins has become the latest women’s basketball recruit to flip from Marquette to Virginia Tech.

Jenkins, a 6-foot-2 forward from Johnston High School in Iowa, announced her commitment to Tech on Twitter on Sunday.

She is rated the No. 82 player in the graduating class of 2025 by ESPN.com — three spots above fellow Tech recruit Kate Sears.

Jenkins verbally committed to Marquette in October, back when Megan Duffy was the Golden Eagles’ coach. Jenkins reopened her recruitment in early April after Duffy left Marquette to take the Hokies’ reins.

Jenkins is the third player who has flipped from Marquette to Tech in the wake of Duffy’s job change. Duffy signed two high school recruits in the spring who had originally signed with her last fall when she was at Marquette — Kayl Petersen, who was rated the No. 68 player in the high school graduating class of 2024 by ESPN, and Leila Wells.
