Players show off talent in Mississippi vs. Louisiana Girls Basketball All-Star Game

MADISON, Miss. (WLBT) – Some of the top high school players in Mississippi went head to head with some of the top high school players from Louisiana in a “Da Sip vs. Da Boot” battle.

Saturday made the third annual Mississippi vs. Louisiana All-Star Girls Basketball Game and this was the first time Mississippi hosted the tournament. Girls from all different high school teams across Mississippi were chosen to join together on one team and represent the Magnolia State.

Each graduating class from 2025 to 2030 had its own team and its own game in the tournament. Each class also got a chance to show off their talents in front of a few college coaches.

The girls did not practice together before the tournament. They had to learn how to play with their new teammates as the game went along. As they were learning their teammates, they were also learning skills that would help them on the next level.”

“It was pretty fun,” Hancock girls basketball player Talana Bond said. “We just had to get used to not knowing how everybody played. It’s not as hard to play with other people. It’s pretty easy to get used to it. You’ve just got to get into quick and move faster and things like that .”

Other girls on the court were also grateful for the chance to play in front of multiple college coaches.

“It was fun playing for Mississippi with some good people in my grade,” Tupelo girls basketball player Nadia Norfleet said. “It’s a great opportunity to show your talents in front of coaches to get an opportunity to play on the next level.”

“It gave an opportunity for some kids who normally don’t get seen to be seen,” Geeker Report founder Coach E.V. said. “We like to do stuff where we give young people who may not get seen an opportunity with some of our events.”
