British tennis star swaps racket for Evri uniform and electric cargo bike

For one day only, Broady drastically changed his career, donned the Evri uniform and swapped his tennis racket for a zero-emission e-cargo bike for a day, delivering a parcel to the National Tennis Centre.

Broady was recognised by a fan whilst dressed in an Evri uniform and made time to stop and have a chat with the supporter.

The 30-year-old is currently British number five and reached a career high ranking of world number 93 last year. Broady has previously won eight singles titles and, despite friendly jokes from rival Andy Murray, is preparing for Wimbledon again this year.

To mark the event, Evri has also donated £5,000 to Tennis First, a charity which helped Broady in his junior days and where he is now an ambassador. Tennis First helps young players develop, starting from 7 years of age.

Evri’s delivery site in Colliers Wood, just a short distance from the Wimbledon grounds, operates a zero-emission fleet – the company delivered 720,000 parcels using pedal power in the last financial year. Evri has set itself an ambitious net-zero target of 2035, reflecting its commitment to more sustainable deliveries.

Broady said: “I had a great time delivering a parcel for Evri and experiencing their zero-emission e-cargo bikes.

”It was eye-opening to see the challenges couriers deal with on a normal day – they’re completely different to the challenges on a tennis court but I have a new-found empathy for everyone delivering to my door and the importance of choosing a safe place or alternative delivery location if you’re out.

“It’s fantastic to see companies taking sustainability seriously, and the donation to Tennis First is a brilliant initiative. Hopefully, it will inspire more young people to pick up a racket.”

Evri is investing heavily in sustainable delivery solutions and, Evri recently announced a £19m investment in sustainability to reach net-zero by 2035. The plans include growing the electric cargo bike fleet to 111 within months and boosting electric vehicles to 270 within a year.
