York City sign defender Darragh O’Connor | York City Football Club

York City are delighted to reveal the signing of defender Darragh O’Connor on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract at former side Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton.

The central defender departed Cappielow Park having featured 68 times across all competitions for the Scottish team.

Originally born in Croydon, England, O’Connor moved to Ireland in 2005 as a young child.

As a youngster, he featured for Cloughbawn, Waterford, Shamrock Rovers and Wexford.

In 2019, O’Connor made 20 appearances for Wexford in the First Division of Irish football.

Performances at Wexford earnt him his first professional contract at Leicester City, signing for the Premier League outfit in August 2019.

Four EFL Trophy appearances followed at the Foxes, alongside regular Premier League 2 action, featuring six times in the EFL competition.

A switch to Scotland followed O’Connor, signing for Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in 2021.

Queen of the South acquired the defender’s service on loan in January 2022, making 17 appearances in total.

O’Connor has picked up a significant amount of his senior appearances with Greenock Morton, signing for the team in May 2022.

The 24-year-old extended his contract in February 2024, running until this summer.

Welcome to the Minstermen, Darragh!
