I might lose my job because of my ex’s crimes

DEAR DEIDRE: My stupid ex told the police we were still together, putting me at risk of losing my job.

He’s such an idiot. I’ve not seen him for months but the police turned up at my workplace saying they wanted to search my flat.

He’s been done for having child abuse images on his phone. I never had any clue he’d look at websites which are so horrific.

We split up because he cheated on me but the police took my laptop and phone nevertheless. There was nothing of interest there and after questioning me, the police believed our relationship was over.

My ex is a man of 37 and I’m 34. I’m a teaching assistant in a special needs school and it’s a job I love.

My head teacher asked me what it was all about though, so I had to tell her. Now she’s had to tell the school governors.

DEIDRE SAYS: There’s no reason why the govenors won’t believe your honesty but make sure somebody is backing your corner.

If you’re in a union, talk to them and get a representative to be with you if you are interviewed.

If you’re not in a union, ask Acas (www.acas.org.uk, 0300 123 1100) for the best way of handling this situation. They can advise you of this or any other workplace dilemma.

Try not to worry about something you can’t control but lean on friends and family for support. Good luck.

Dear Deidre: Cheating and can you get over it
