Penn State alumni team competing in The Basketball Tournament in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WHTM) – The Penn State alumni team Happy Valley Hoopers will compete in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this summer at The Basketball Tournament (TBT), a $1 million, winner-take-all event.

This is the second year the alumni team, organized by Nittany Lion alum John Harrar, will be competing in TBT. The current roster has Penn State alums Qudus Wahab (2023-24), Harrar (2017-22), Sam Sessoms (2020-22), Jamari Wheeler (2017-21), Taylor Nussbaum (2017-21), Trent Buttrick (2017-21), Izaiah Brockington (2018-21) and Josh Reaves (2015-19).

Former Penn State assistant coach Ross Condon will be the head coach of the Happy Valley Hoopers and Nittany Lion alum Myles Dread (2018-23) will be the assistant coach.

The games for the Pittsburgh regional will take place at the Petersen Events Center. The Happy Valley Hoopers open against DuBois Dream on Saturday, July 20 at 1 p.m. The winner of the game will meet the winner of the matchup between the Stars of Storrs (UConn alumni) and Herkminer Originals on Monday, July 2 at 6 p.m.

The Pittsburgh Regional championship game will be on Wednesday, July 24 at 7 p.m.

The Pittsburgh Regional champions will compete against the winner of the Butler Regional in the quarterfinals on July 29 or 30. The semifinals and $1 million championship games will be on Aug. 2 and Aug. 4 in Philadelphia at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
