Inspection at Laois courthouse after rodents detected

Pest control contractors are to carry out an inspection of Portlaoise courthouse after rodents were detected there last week.

In a statement, the Courts Service said that a mechanical and electrical team from the Office of Public Works will also examine all of the cables at the courthouse, in order to check their safety.

“Facilities in Portlaoise are not at the level to facilitate the delivery of modern courts services. Our team there are continuing to do what they can to deliver the best service possible,” it said.

The Courts Service said that the courthouse was built when “service expectations were completely different”, and that they remain committed to building a modern court facility.

However, it said that the new facility at Kylekiproe will be built “when resources are available”.
