Derrick McKey Hosts Charity Golf Event

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) –

Derrick McKey is not only a former NBA player, University of Alabama Alum, and Meridian local, but he has a heart for giving back to the community.

McKey hosted the first Derrick McKey Charity Golf Classic on Friday.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Camp McKey, the annual basketball camp he puts on, and McKey Initiatives.

McKey was happy with the support he received from the community.

“Just come out and have fun and this is kind of like a not necessarily a family reunion, but I know a lot of people here, a lot of my classmates, a lot of people that I, I grew up around. So it’s definitely that family-type, atmosphere and just come out, have fun. We’re going to have food and play a little golf. It’s great and we appreciate the support we have gotten from a lot of people. We can certainly use more, but we’ll accept anything we can,” said the former NBA player.

McKey hopes the community will continue to get involved in the future.
