Pedestrian in her 80s dies in incident at Carlow car park

An investigation is under way after a pedestrian in her 80s died following an incident involving a van at an enclosed car park in Co Carlow.

The incident happened at Presentation Place, College Street in Carlow Town, at around 4.30pm yesterday.

The woman was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny with serious injuries and died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place.

The driver of the van was not injured in the incident.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the Presentation Place area between 4.15pm and 4.45pm to contact them.

The woman’s death brings to 93 the number of people who have died on Irish roads so far this year.
