Major disruption on Luas line as van driven onto tracks

There is major disruption on the Luas Red Line in Dublin after a van was driven onto the line and is now embedded in the tracks by what Luas operators have said was reckless driving.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm at the Blackhorse stop in the south city.

A crane is currently trying to remove the vehicle which has resulted in most of the operation of the Red Line being suspended.

The Red Line is currently only operating a limited service between Heuston Station and Connolly Station and there is no service between Connolly and The Point.

There is no service from Heuston to Tallaght and Saggart, which includes the Luas Park and Ride at the Red Cow.

The incident could have a serious impact on the tens of thousands attending concerts, matches and events around the capital.

A spokesperson for the Luas said they are urgently trying to resolve the issue which they say was caused by a reckless motorist.

Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of the disruption.
