Knight Templar didn’t show much in four starts last year, but typical of one from this yard, he has improved since moving up in trip and entering handicaps this season.

He was beaten just a short head on his return at Beverley last month, not exactly strong in the betting but showing plenty to work on, just collared on the line.

Knight Templar ran to a similar level when again finding just one rival too strong at Chepstow last time, beaten much further by a big improver, but pulling clear of the remainder himself. There should be even more to come from him and he remains a horse to be positive about for an in-form yard.

Great Max was highly tried earlier in his career for previous connections, contesting multiple pattern events, but he lost his form last year, and now figures on a potentially lenient mark.

He has shaped better than the bare result on both occasions for David O’Meara, too, travelling like the best horse at the weights in a handicap over a mile at this course last time, but caught away from the heart of the action having challenged on the far wing.

The drop in trip won’t be a problem for him and he is worth persevering with having joined a yard that are very adept with getting the best out of such types.
