Man appears in Limerick court over firearm offence

A man has appeared in court charged with carrying a loaded semi-automatic gun as well as ammunition, while he rode an electric scrambler bike through Limerick city.

Craig O’Donnell, 27, with an address at O’Malley Park, Limerick, was refused bail before a special sitting of Limerick District Court.

Mr O’Donnell is charged with one count of possession of a firearm and one count of possession of 9mm calibre ammunition.

Garda Stephen McEntegart gave evidence during a bail application in court.

Mr O’Donnell made “no reply” to the charges, Gda McEntegart said.

The garda objected to bail citing the “nature, degree and seriousness” of the evidence.

Judge Gabbett said he was satisfied to refuse bail given the “very serious” evidence and nature of the objections of gardaí.

The judge remanded Mr O’Donnell in custody to Limerick Prison to appear before Limerick District Court via video-link next Tuesday.
