BCCI announces INR 125 crore prize money for Indian team that won T20 World Cup 2024

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a prize money of 125 crore rupees for the Men’s T20 team which won the T20 World Cup 2024, beating South Africa in the final, on June 29.

“I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament,” Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, announced on social media.

“Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement.”

India beat the Proteas by seven runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, clinching the World Cup after 17 years. It was also its first ICC tile in 13 years, with the last one being the ODI World Cup in 2011.

Earlier, Shah had lauded the Men in Blue for their valiant effort in the tournament, which they finished unbeaten until lifting the trophy.

“They (Team India) have faced and silenced their critics with stellar performances time and again. Their journey has been nothing short of inspirational, and today, they join the ranks of the greats, achieving something truly special that brings immense pride and joy to all Indians,” he said.

India had started its 2024 World Cup campaign with a win against Ireland before going on to beat Pakistan and co-host United States of America. It’s last group stage game against Canada in Florida.

In the Super Eights, India prevailed over Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia to qualify for the semifinals. In the last-four clash, it eliminated defending champion England and pipped South Africa to end the tournament with the trophy.
