Shopping Paddy’s Day Bank Holiday supermarket opening hours as time changes made
St Patrick’s Day 2024 falls on a Sunday with many planning a full Bank Holiday Weekend of craic, ceol, food and drink.
Galway city’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival runs from Friday 15 March till Monday 18 March, and many town and villages around the county are similarly hard at it preparing for the most Irish day of the year.
Many will be attending parades on Sunday and relaxing for the weekend with family and friends. People will also be hosting plenty of parties so knowing when the supermarkets shut is essential.

People are advised to check their local supermarket’s opening hours before the weekend begins to make sure they are all stocked up over the Bank Holiday Weekend centred around St. Patrick’s Day 2024, Sunday 17 March.

Aldi
Aldi stores will operated their regular Sunday hours opening hours this St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday 17 March, which is 9am until 9pm. The shop will operate the Bank Holiday Monday 18 March from 9am till 9pm.

Lidl
Lidl will be open along their usual Sunday opening hours, 9am to 9pm, on St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday 17 March and on bank holiday Monday 18 March.
Tesco
Most Tesco stores across Galway will be open at their Sunday hours which are 9am to 10pm. To find the opening times for your nearest Tesco you can check their store locator to make sure.
Dunnes Stores
All Galway Dunnes Stores may have different opening hours but most stores will be operating off their Sunday hours on St. Patrick’s Day and Bank Holiday Monday, which are 9am to 8pm.

SuperValu
All Supervalu stores operate to their own opening hours, but many are expected to follow their usual Sunday hours on St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday 17 March, and on the Bank Holiday Monday 18 March.
