A levy on all fast fashion purchases may be introduced | iRadio

A new proposal could see a levy placed on all fast fashion purchases.

A Dublin MEP is calling for the charge to protect people from forced labour.

In France, an environmental levy is placed on all fast fashion products, in an effort to discourage consumers from buying the goods.

Now, Fianna Fáil MEP Barry Andrews is calling for a similar charge to be introduced here.

He has concerns about the use of forced labour in the production of clothes for shops like Penneys, Temu and Shein.

He says the levy could be spent on good causes. The levy will be charged at the point of sale.
