A trip to Dalkey, making friends with firefighters and traditional music – Henry ‘The Fonz’ Winkler’s week in Dublin

It was quite the start of the trip for ‘The Fonz’ to Ireland, who had only arrived in the city the night before, after a three and a half hour flight delay from London.

“When I heard the fire alarm, I thought it was the clock radio,” the actor said.

A call down to reception and a chat with a “very calm” member of staff (though his reenactment would suggest something a little less than calm) told him the noise wasn’t in fact the fault of the previous guest, thought to have set the alarm clock.

That was just the beginning of a busy trip for the actor who shook hands with and praised the Dublin Fire brigade for their response to the emergency in the Dublin hotel.

“Firemen are some of my favourite human beings. Firemen and firewomen. They run in when the other people are running out,” Winkler said.

A quick selfie with his favourite people and Winkler went to enjoy the rest of his first day here.

The next day though, he was back with the firemen and posted a picture of his visit to Tara Street Fire Station, wearing the full fireman kit.

“Joining the firefighters here in Dublin !!!! What a bunch,” Winkler captioned a picture of him smiling broadly in the uniform and leaning against one of the fire engines.

He was even given an enamel Dublin Fire Brigade badge to mark his visit.

By Friday, the actor had visited the south Dublin coastal town of Dalkey, where the Dalkey Book Festival is taking place this weekend.

Winkler was one of the big names on the lineup and the tickets for his event on stage, “Being The Fonz, Being Henry” were sold out.

The actor even took time to pose for photos with the gardaí on duty while there, wearing a green knit jumper and that massive grin.

As the weekend rolled on, The Fonz hit the pubs in the capital to enjoy some of the traditional music the city had to offer.

“Now we are in Dublin !!! FANTASTIC pub O’Donoghue’s!!!!,” Winkler posted on social media, along with a video of musicians playing and crowds enjoying the performance.
