Adam Idah to Celtic permanent transfer gets unanimous dressing room verdict

Kyogo Furuhashi has urged Celtic to tie down strike partner Adam Idah long term – insisting everyone at Parkhead wants him to stay.

The on-loan Norwich City striker played a pivotal role in the Hoops landing the league and Scottish Cup double and has become a summer priority for Brendan Rodgers. His nine goals in 19 games also eased the burden on Kyogo who chipped in with 20 strikes. Now Celtic’s Japanese talisman voiced his admiration for his colleague after Idah struck a 90th minute winner against Rangers in Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final.

The Ireland international had replaced Kyogo in the 62nd minute at Hampden before netting the final goal of the domestic season. It was the latest of a series of big strikes after he hit doubles in wins against Hibs and Motherwell as well as netting at Ibrox and Rugby Park on the evening the title was secured a fortnight ago.

Hoops full-back Greg Taylor reckons the big striker’s arrival has pushed Kyogo onto another level. And now, with Rodgers admitting he is keen to get a £6m deal for Idah over the line, the Japanese has joined the calls to bring the Norwich ace back to Glasgow permanently.

He said: “He’s doing a very good job and as a striker, as a colleague, I am very happy for him. I think everyone wishes him to stay. But at the end of the day that’s his decision. We want him to stay, though.”

Kyogo now has seven winners’ medals from three years in the east end of Glasgow after following up a third successive league title with victory in Saturday’s showpiece at the National Stadium. The 29-year-old was kept quiet by the Rangers defence as Celtic struggled to create any clear cut chances. But when one dropped for Idah in the dying seconds the hitman pounced.

And Kyogo reckons the result was all that matters. He said: “Throughout the 90 minutes I thought everyone fought. In the end we got the result and we made everyone smile – so we’re happy about it.”
