Affordable housing scheme for Ferrybank to open applications – News – Waterford News & Star

There was some positive news on the housing front in Waterford recently with the news that Kilkenny County Council, in collaboration with Whitebox Property Group and the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage, has announced the launch of Affordable Purchase Scheme homes at Abbey Meadows, Ferrybank, next to Ross Abbey Retail Park where Mr Price and Tesco Express are located.

The new homes will be located on the outskirts of Waterford City but within the bounds of County Kilkenny.

Kilkenny County Council stated the new homes will be ‘flooded with natural light throughout, with open plan living in mind’. The site adjoins the Ross Abbey Neighbourhood Centre where a planned future road will connect the site with the Aldi roundabout on the Waterford to New Ross road.

The site also abuts the South East Greenway which, when completed, will provide a direct link between Waterford City and New Ross town in County Wexford.

Under the scheme there will be 14 new homes available to purchase at prices below the market value. The initiative is supported by the Affordable Housing Act 2021 and associated affordable housing regulations. The homes will be primarily intended for first-time buyers who do not currently own or have a legal interest in a dwelling, with a few possible exceptions.

The 14 houses will consist of: one four-bed, detached (minimum purchase €284,000); four, four-bed semi-detached homes (€274,000); six three-bed end of terrace units (€250,000) and three, three-bed, mid-terrace homes (€240,000).

Applications will be accepted via a Kilkenny County Council online application portal which will only go live on Wednesday, July 3, at 12 noon. Applications may be made between 12 noon that day and 12 noon on Wednesday, July 31, when the portal closes.

In relation to the application process Kilkenny County Council stated that intending applicants have all their documentation ready to submit at the time of application and they should ensure that they fully complete the application form, declarations and submit all the required documentation as the date and time of receipt of valid applications will be one of the criteria on which eligible applications will be prioritised under the Council’s Scheme of Priority.
