New Delhi: Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray injured his back during the second-round match against Australia’s Jordan Thompson at the Queen’s warm-up event in London and was reportedly ruled out of the Wimbledon.

He was aiming to make his last appearance in Wimbledon, which he won in 2013 and 2016 but now need six weeks to recover from the surgery with Wimbledon starting from July 1.

“Andy is having a procedure on his back tomorrow [Saturday]. We will know more after this has taken place and will update further as soon as possible” A statement from his management.

Murray is now in serious doubt over his participation in the Paris Olympics. He said that he felt a weakness in his right leg and lost coordination. He received medical treatment after three games but soon decided to withdraw.

“I never had that loss of coordination, control and strength in my leg before,” Murray said shortly after the match.

“I’ve been struggling with my back for a while, I had lost the power in my right leg so lost all motor control, I had no coordination and couldn’t really move.”

He remains optimistic about playing in the remaining summer tournaments and said “Like all tennis players, we have degenerative joints and stuff in the back, but it’s all predominantly been left-sided for me my whole career”.

“I have never had too many issues with the right side. So maybe there is something that can be done between now and then to help the right side.”

He underwent a back surgery in 2013. Murray made his return from an ankle injury five weeks ago after missing the action for two months.
