Apple has begun the official sunsetting process for several of its once-popular devices. The iPhone X, the original HomePod smart speaker, and the first generation of AirPods have all been reclassified as “vintage” products, according to an update on Apple’s support page.

This designation signifies that Apple has discontinued sales of these products for more than five years but less than seven. While some vintage products may still be eligible for repairs at Apple Stores or authorised service providers, parts availability becomes increasingly limited over time.

Apple devices added to vintage list The iPhone X, launched in 2017, has been succeeded by several newer iPhone models with more advanced features like Face ID and improved camera systems. The anniversary edition iPhone is the first from the company to sport an OLED dipslay with Dolby Vision and HDR10 support. The smartphone comes with a Super Retina 5.8-inch display with 1125×2436 pixel resolution.

The iPhone X is powered by the company’s own A11 Bionic chipset. It is also the first iPhone to feature facial recognition with FaceID, which has replaced Apple’s trademark TouchID fingerprint sensor that debuted in iPhones in 2013.

Similarly, the original HomePod has been overshadowed by the more compact and feature-rich HomePod mini. Originally launched in 2018, the first smart speaker from Apple is powered by the company’s own A8 chipset. Apple HomePod comes equipped with a large woofer and offers a custom array of seven beam-forming tweeters.

Lastly, the first-generation AirPods have also been surpassed by newer versions with improved battery life and noise cancellation features. The Apple AirPods claims to offer 24 hours of battery backup. The AirPods promise to offer rich and high-quality audio.
