Armed gardai respond to incident in Limerick village
ARMED gardai were called to respond to a serious incident in Athea which has shocked locals.
A garda spokesperson confirmed to Limerick Live that gardaí responded to reports of an assault at a property in Athea on Wednesday evening, July 3.
“One male was arrested at the scene of the incident. Investigations are ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson.
Gardai have not confirmed if there were any injuries sustained by any persons involved in the incident.

Video footage has emerged of members of the Regional Support Unit on the streets of Athea and entering a property through a doorway.
It is understood the man arrested is not a native of the area.
One local told Limerick Live: “It’s a very quiet, rural village. I’ve never seen anything like this before in Athea – armed guards with machine guns on the street. It’s the kind of thing you’d see on TV.”
