Armed Support Unit assist in searches of properties in Limerick

GARDAI raided a number of properties in Limerick city centre this Tuesday afternoon.

A number of garda units were involved in the operation designed to tackle antisocial behaviour and drug activity. The garda searches focused on buildings in Catherine Street and Cecil Street.

A garda spokesperson said gardaí with Community Policing in Henry Street garda station, with the assistance of the Armed Support Unit and Regional Dog Unit, carried out a number of searches at properties in Limerick City Centre.

“The searches are a result of ongoing investigations into antisocial behavior and drug activity in the area. 

“No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.

One onlooker told Limerick Live there was a lot of commotion on the streets.

“There were three or four garda cars and vans on Catherine Street. They had the street blocked. They had a sniffer dog too. It was about twenty past two. Then around the corner were the boys with the guns.  

“A lot of people were gathered around watching the goings on and asking what was happening,” they said.
