Question: I have a friend who has recently lost lots of weight and got into fitness in a big way. We are part of a friendship group of five, and we all met at a breastfeeding group with our now 10-year-old kids. This group has been a great source of support for me over the years, mostly through messaging. We would meet maybe once a year — and in a way I would prefer if we never met up ,as I feel like it is my unbiased support group, as none of our friends are kids and we aren’t part of each other’s everyday lives.

Anyway, the mum who has recently become very fit has started posting pics of herself into the group looking fab, and while I am very happy for her, I feel like it has changed everything. I am not in great shape and neither are a couple of the other mums and I feel like no one is as free as we were before because this topic of looks and bodies and weight has invaded our safe space.
