Asylum seekers moved after camping across the road from Leinster House

Migrant tents on Merrion Square next to Government Buildings and Taste of Dublin

A camp of around 40 tents of asylum seekers who had camped on Merrion Square overnight has been moved by gardai this morning.

The men had pitched the tents late yesterday evening across from the Merrion Street side of Government Buildings.

At around 9am gardai started to arrive and asked the men to leave the area, directing them to the International Protection Office on Mount Street.

As the men left, or tents were found unoccupied, gardai turned the tents on their sides. Then men then walked away with their belongings, mostly leaving the tents behind them.

A similar operation occured yesterday at around noon at the lock on the Grand Canal at Leeson Street Bridge where a similar number of tents had been pitched on Wednesday night.

And this, is turn, followed an operation on Wednesday across the road on the city side of Leeson Street Bridge where more than 40 tents were pitched.

Volunteers working with the migrant men have reported that many of them have been moved on numerous occasions in recent days,
