Aussie cricket star lights up the internet with ‘catch of the century’
Marnus Labuschagne has lit up England’s T20 Blast competition with one of the best catches of the year.
The Australian’s Glamorgan side went down in a final-ball thriller on Thursday in England but it was his moment in Gloucestershire’s chase that will stick in the memory.

Gloucestershire were in desperate need of runs to begin the 10th over, needing 96 from 66 balls to win, and so Ben Charlesworth decided to take on the spin of one-time England bowler Mason Crane.
But he didn’t get quite enough on the shot for the ball to even reach the rope on a bounce — because Labuschagne, who must have been disappointed to have earlier only made 18 runs himself, was working miracles.
The Aussie suddenly appeared in view of the cameras still miles from where the ball would land.
Yet he committed to a dive and stuck out his right hand for a truly stunning catch.
Labuschagne knew immediately that it was one for the highlight reel, jogging off holding the ball up in the air like a trophy.
“Oh! That is unbelievable. That is one of the greatest catches you will ever see,” the commentator screamed.
Their co-commentator was in awe: “Oh my goodness. That is incredible. What a catch that is, one-handed, full stretch. Brilliant catch.”
Even those who missed out on witnessing the catch with their own eyes were stunned, with the video quickly going viral.
“Noooo way,” England great Danni Wyatt wrote, while India’s Suryakumar Yadav had stars in his eyes.
Pakistani social media identity Farid Khan said: “CATCH OF THE CENTURY BY MARNUS LABUSCHAGNE. What an effort, I cannot believe my eyes. What have I just seen?”
Peter Miller wrote: “One of the best catches I have ever seen live from Marnus.”
Unfortunately for Labuschagne and Glamorgan, the wicket seemed to light a fire under Gloucestershire captain Jack Taylor.
He was on just six runs when Charlesworth was dismissed but would finish on 70 as he set up a grandstand finish.
Taylor was run out with only two balls remaining, with new batsman Josh Shaw needing eight runs off the final two balls.
He hit a two and then smashed a six to secure the two-wicket win.
“It was a bit surreal really,” Shaw said.
“Obviously, it had to go for six and I knew I had got it all but you are never quite sure when you’re down at number 10.”
