Autism & Non-Visible Disabilities
A non-visible disability can be physical, mental, intellectual, sensory or related to a medical condition, and can be life-long or temporary in nature. In certain environments, people with non-visible disabilities can experience difficulties that others will not.
At Dublin Airport, we are committed to improving the airport environment to ensure a positive airport experience for all of our passengers. In addition, we have assistance options for passengers to support them in planning and making their airport journey.
Sensory Rooms
There are two sensory rooms in Dublin Airport, one in each terminal, post the security screening process. For more information, please click here.
Important Flyer
Passengers who are autistic or have SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) can find the airport environment difficult. In particular, the security screening process can be challenging due to sensory overload and the necessity to divest important personal belongings for screening. For this reason, Dublin Airport introduced the Important Flyer lanyard, to highlight to staff that these passengers may need additional support going through the screening process.
Please note, the Important Flyer lanyard is recognised in Dublin Airport only and requires an application, along with a confirmed diagnosis of autism or SPD. Application details are below.
To request a wristband or lanyard, please enter your details in the form below:
- If are requesting an Important Flyer wristband or lanyard, please be advised you must provide us with a short note from your GP confirming that the person has a diagnosis of autism.
- Please complete an individual application for each Important Flyer, i.e. if you have two Important Flyers, please complete two applications.
- This can be attached to the form below, or posted to us: Dublin Airport, Reduced Mobility Co-ordinator, Level 5, Terminal 1, Dublin Airport, Co Dublin. All queries can be sent to prm@daa.ie.
- For information on how to request a wristband or lanyard please contact the Reduced Mobility Co-ordinator, Dublin Airport by emailing prm@daa.ie.
*Please note that due to high demand, we can only issue wristbands and lanyards to people who have confirmed travel arrangements. Applications will be processed in order of travel date; we aim to issue wristbands/lanyards 2 weeks (14 days) before travel.
We recommend intending passengers submit applications 40 to 60 days before the date of travel to ensure timely processing and dispatch. Applications received less than 14 days ahead of the travel date will be processed as soon as possible, but receipt of wristbands/lanyards for these applications cannot be guaranteed in time for travel.
Please note assistance can also be provided by our assistance service provider OCS. OCS Main Office +353 1 944 6108 (8am – 4pm).
