Basketball Ireland is delighted to announce the appointment of Kevin Lacey as our Fingal Community Development Officer. He becomes Basketball Ireland’s 9th Development Officer on the ground across the island of Ireland.
Lacey is a former Irish international, featuring in the U16 and U18 FIBA Youth EuroBasket, FIBA European Championship for Small Countries and SinoEuro Championship in China. He also represented Swords Basketball Club at Super League level, as well as St. Vincents Basketball Club. He has since put his experience on the court to good use by coaching in both clubs and schools over the last 15 years.
“I am really excited to get started in an area with fantastic potential for growth,” said Lacey. “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Fingal County Council for partnering with Basketball Ireland to create this role and I look forward to working closely with those already on the ground to maximise the benefits for children in Fingal and the surrounding area.”
Fingal County Council’s Director of Active Travel and Sport, David Storey added: “Appointing Kevin Lacey as Basketball Development Officer is a significant step for Fingal County Council, Europe’s second fastest-growing region. This role reflects our commitment to developing basketball, a sport experiencing significant growth in our community. Kevin’s key objectives within Fingal will be focusing on participation at grassroots level, youth at risk and providing structured support to local clubs to continue the great work being done on the ground.”
Philip Nolan has announced that he will leave his position as Arena Manager of the National Basketball Arena at the end of July. He has been in the role since 2018.
Basketball Ireland CEO John Feehan said: “I’d like to thank Philip for the last six years as Arena Manager. His diligent work has helped take the National Basketball Arena to the next level as an event space and his efforts to help facilitate practices and games for the basketball community throughout the years, have been second to none. We all wish him continued success in whatever he decides to do next.”
Basketball Ireland will be recruiting a replacement for the position of Arena Manager, and will announce job application details next week.
