Beautiful county with wild vistas experts say you should visit instead of Dublin

A US travel website has snubbed Dublin and urged tourists to opt for another county instead. Travel Off Path, a “world-leading” tourism website, has warned US visitors to stay away from the Irish capital this summer season.

Instead, globe-trotters should experience the sights and sounds of Co Galway, according to one of its articles, entitled, 4 European Capitals To Avoid This Summer And Where You Should Go Instead!.

The writer is no fan of Dublin, it seems, and recommends a venture out west in its place. He claims Dublin is far from the most riveting of capitals, and has just a couple of historic buildings, namely “Dublin Castle and Trinity College“.

There are no iconic landmarks you’d associate with a capital such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris or Big Ben in London, according to the author. Temple Bar, the heaving tourist hotspot, is also a bone of contention for the writer.

He claims he’d spend a “$100 bare minimum” on a night out there and while Galway isn’t “that much” cheaper than Dublin, it is his “top pick” for to visit.

“The colourful Latin quarter flanked by traditional pubs and bars does feel more authentic, and less crowded than the godforsaken Temple Bar,” the article states. Pubs including Tigh Neachtain and The Dail Bar got a special mention while the size of the city was said to be “more compact, quaint, and safer than the crime-ridden capital.”

Galway Cathedral is “a marvel of the Renaissance Revival order” and stands out amongst the otherwise even-height skyline while you’ll finds hints of Galway’s medieval past around nearly every corner.

Hollywood stars have even been favouring Galway as of late. Staff at Tigh Neachtain, the pub mentioned in the article, were left star struck after Will Ferrell popped in for a pint while on his travels through Ireland last week.

Taking to social media a pub spokesperson wrote: “Did we just become best friends?” in a nod to Stepbrothers, one of Ferrell’s most popular and well-quoted movies.
