The 64-year-old added: “It has been a complete honour and privilege to serve the people of this region and I will always have the interests of the North West at heart.

“A big ‘thank you’ to all the people who have appeared on the programme over the years, sometimes when they have been facing some very tough challenges.”

Viewers have been sending their best wishes to the journalist since her announcement.

One person wrote on X: “No, this is sad news, Lucy is the very best at broadcasting to you on a one to one basis, an extremely rare talent, wonderful journalist, will leave a big void in Granada Reports.”

Another commented: “She is simply the best local news presenter and will be missed.”

While one other added: “Wonderful broadcaster. She was so lovely to me and brilliantly supportive of new talent. She’ll be properly missed.”
