Blue Demons Golf Classic honours memory of club stalwart Peter Coughlan
THIS year’s Blue Demons Golf Classic is attracting a big entry and the Gurranabraher Credit Union have again come in as the main sponsor of the event.
They have supported this outing over the past number of years as the Blue Demons club is synonymous with the Parochial Hall, now renamed the Gurranabraher Credit Union Arena.
The local credit union are pleased to be able to support a club that is at the forefront in helping to develop, in so many ways, the children within their community with chairman of the Board Michael O’Connell praising the club.
“We are very honoured to be involved with Blue Demons who have done so much work on Cork’s northside for many years and like many clubs they are an integral part of our community,” he said.
O’Connell believes Gurranabraher Credit Union have consistently invested into various sports on Cork’s northside.
“Sport is very important to the children and youth and we have focused big time in ensuring clubs are kept afloat,” he added.
The 2023 event with 65 teams participating, was our most successful Classic since its inception in 1995 as chairman Dan Byrne explained.
“We are confident that this year’s event will continue to meet the high standards we have set ourselves when staging this Classic.
“We have received many plaudits on an annual basis as we do our very best to ensure all teams have an enjoyable day and I think our policy will not change in that department.”
It is the aim of the organising committee, once again to achieve the high standard associated with the golf outing at the prestigious Monkstown Golf, Right Price Tiles & Wood Flooring have kindly come to the aid of the organising committee by kindly sponsoring the prizes, which will be many and varied.
Another company Seabrook Technology long associated with the annual outing are contributing financially to some of the costs of staging this event. Seabrook’s founder Sean O’Sullivan has been a member of the organizing committee since its inception and is also a Blue Demons stalwart.
On the basketball court this year Blue Demons, under the UCC banner, defied all the odds by reaching the semi-finals of the National League despite a poor start early in the season.
UCC Demons defeated the best teams in Ireland on their way to winning outright the National Cup and beating Cork rivals Ballincollig in the final.
The latest cup win has moved UCC Blue Demons to the forefront of National Senior competitions victories with eight Leagues, eight National Cups and four Champion trophies.
Blue Demons basketball club starts at nursery level right up to the top tier and this is one of many fundraisers they have planned that ensures their ship is kept afloat The fee for participation in the 2024 Classic is set at €350 for a three-man team and includes a four-course meal and excellent prizes at the prestigious Monkstown Golf Club with its splendid course excellent clubhouse and five-star cuisine.
