Brad Tingey named Camas County head boys basketball coach

A new coach will lead the defending state champions.

Camas County High School announced Brad Tingey as its new head boys basketball coach, according to a Facebook post Monday.

The school confirmed the news with the Times-News. 

Tingey will replace Jamon Frostenson, who won 153 games across 11 seasons and helped lead the Mushers to their first state title since 1974. Outgoing Camas County activities director Mike McHan told the Times-News that Frostenson stepped down to spend more time with his family.

Tingey comes with a wealth of experience. He taught for 30 years and spent 15 of those as an athletic director at various Utah school districts, including Hillcrest, Copper Hills and Herriman High School. He spent 18 of those years as a head coach, winning two regional titles and leading his teams to eight state tournament appearances. Tingey will have to rebuild Camas County from the ground up, as the Mushers lose eight seniors from the state championship team.

No. 1 Camas County led start to finish toward a 56-42 win over No. 2 Kendrick in the Idaho 1A Division II boys basketball state final on Saturday.

“My vision for Camas basketball is to continue the winning tradition and build teams that work extremely hard, play together and compete every night on the court,” Tingey said in the school’s announcement. “I also expect my players to be good students and leaders in the school so we can always represent Camas County in a manner that makes the school and community proud.”

The Fairfield boys who powered Camas County to its first state basketball title in 50 years led the Magic Valley’s eight All-State boys selections which the Idaho Statesman released Thursday.

Tingey is not the only new hire for the school. Michelle Ruetmann will be taking over as activities director, replacing McHan.
