Bray named as one of world’s most underrated travel destinations

Bray has once again been named one of the world’s most underrated travel destinations by Time Out.

The Irish seaside town has earned a spot on the list for the second time, with Time Out highlighting its appeal among 24 other global destinations.

Other locations recognised include Prince Edward Island in Canada, Tasmania in Australia, Karpathos in Greece, and Plymouth in England, with Bray ranking 24th.

Eugene Finnegan from Bray Tourism highlighted the significance of this recognition: “Being acknowledged again by Time Out is a testament to Bray’s enduring appeal. The support from the Bray Municipal District and Wicklow County Council has been instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the town’s amenities and public realm.”

Bray first appeared on the list in 2023, receiving praise for its diverse range of activities and dining options. This year, the town secured the 24th spot.

Time Out’s article recounts how Bray’s popularity soared with the arrival of the railway in 1854, earning it the nickname “the Brighton of Ireland.”

Bray’s Victorian seafront has been revitalised, bustling with cafés and restaurants. Visitors can enjoy a scenic walk from the harbour along the esplanade to Bray Head, an 800-foot-high vantage point offering stunning panoramic views.

Time Out contributor Stephen Emms elaborated on Bray’s charm, noting its historical significance and the vibrant atmosphere that has re-emerged in recent years.

Cllr Dermot O’Brien, Cathaoirleach of Bray Municipal District, welcomed the news, stating, “We are delighted that Time Out has once again recognised Bray.

“This accolade underscores our town’s unique charm and vibrant appeal. Being featured among the world’s most underrated travel destinations is a testament to our community’s hard work and dedication. It highlights Bray as a beloved tourism destination and sets us on the right footing for continued growth and success.”

Despite strong competition, Bray’s unique offerings earned it a spot on this year’s list. Topping the list is Filandia in Colombia, showcasing the diversity of destinations highlighted by Time Out. Read the full article here.
