Brazil Flood Disaster: Philanthropist Novak Djokovic Steps in Alongside ATP Peers to Create a Wave of Change

The flooding in Rio Grande do Sul continues to devastate the populace. Harrowing rainfall leads to a severe rise in water levels, and the Southern part of the country is experiencing a nightmarish situation. Death toll increases day-by-day, and several have been displaced, rendered helpless by the whims of the rain. Unable to sit idly by as the Brazilians suffer, the local tennis star has joined hands with Novak Djokovic and other ATP players to raise funds for the victims.

Marcelo Demoliner has organized an auction, set to take place on Tuesday, 25 June, at 6:30 p.m. EDT. The highlight will be equipment from players like Djokovic, Andrey Rublev, Daniil Medvedev, Juan Martin del Potro, and Casper Ruud. Special items will be selected from these players and will be up for auction as they display their philanthropic side.

The Djoker is always willing to lend a helping hand and will do so once again for the people of Rio Grande do Sul. WTA stars such as Aryna Sabalenka and Beatriz Haddad Maia will also share items for the auction, with the proceeds going towards aid for Brazil. Retired players are also stepping in to grow funds for the venture.

Former world number 1 and three-time French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten is auctioning a private tour of his Florianopolis museum and personal collection. The venture set up by Marcelo Demoliner is catching fire as the top dogs of ATP have stepped in to ensure he sees it fulfilled. Meanwhile, the Brazilian star is also actively working to help the people affected by the floods.

Local Brazilian tennis star working tirelessly amid devastating situation

Former number 34 doubles star Marcelo Demoliner not forgotten about the needs of his country despite active duty on the tennis circuit. With several initiatives launched by him, his aim is to provide his populace with the warmth they need. Demoliner has worked day in and day out, devastated by the flooding that wreaked havoc situation in his country.

Speaking to the ATP Tour, he said, “I was competing and following all the news with a heavy heart. I really wanted to help my state and use my platform as a professional athlete to make a difference. We started mobilising a network within the tennis and sports world, and many athletes embraced the cause. We are very committed to making this charity auction a success to help rebuild the lives of families affected by the floods.”

Tennis stars have always stepped up in times of need. With the active involvement of sporting stars like Djokovic and Demoliner, a wave of hope has emerged during these saddening times. On the tennis front, Djokovic will next be seen in action at Wimbledon, which starts next month.
