BREAKING: Fatal fire in University of Limerick student village

LIMERICK Fire & Rescue Service have confirmed a fatal fire occurred at a residence in Kilmurry Village on the grounds of University of Limerick on Thursday night.

They were alerted to the blaze at 23:41pm on Thursday, June 20.

A male was located deceased in the residence. 

Responding to a query from Limerick Live, a garda spokesperson said: “The body remains at the scene. The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will be conducted today (Friday 21st June 2024).

“A post-mortem examination will be arranged and the results of this, along with the findings of the technical examination, will determine the course of the Garda investigation.”

Three units from Limerick city and one unit from Cappamore responded to the fire, with the crews departing at 5:09am this Friday morning.

Kilmurry Village is an on-campus student accommodation village in University of Limerick. Outside of the college academic semesters the village can be occupied by people other than students.
