BREAKING: Man charged over carving knife stabbing during burglary at Limerick home

A MAN was charged in connection with a stabbing during a burglary in a Limerick home, at a special court sitting in Kilmallock this Saturday evening. 

Dean Hayes, aged 36, of Lee Estate, Island Road, Limerick city appeared before Judge Patricia Harney shortly after 7pm.

Detective Garda Jonathon Finn, of Henry Street garda station, gave evidence of arresting, charging and cautioning Mr Hayes on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Hayes is charged with burglary, assault causing harm to a man, and production of an article capable of inflicting serious injury, namely a carving knife.

The alleged offences occurred at around 9pm on Thursday, June 20 at a property in Newcastle, Dublin Road, Limerick city.

Det Garda Finn said Mr Hayes made no reply to the charges after caution. The detective garda said there would be an objection to bail.

John Herbert, solicitor for Mr Hayes, reserved his position with regard to making a bail application.

Inspector Marie Crowley, on behalf of the State, made an application for Mr Hayes to be remanded in custody and to be produced at Limerick District Court on Tuesday morning, June 25.

Judge Harney granted the application.

Mr Hayes, who was wearing a black sweatshirt, navy trousers and sliders, did not speak during the brief procedural matter.
